Going Way Offbeat to Macc

Chorlton Beer & Cider Festival has been going for almost 20 years and we’ve featured some amazing breweries over the years. Many of these are still going strong today, but sadly some are no longer with us.

For CBCF24, we wanted to celebrate some of the great breweries from the festival’s past that have ceased brewing.

Offbeat Brewery, Crewe closed in 2018 but only after making a big impression on the North West beer scene and becoming a fixture at almost every festival in the region, including here in Chorlton. Their tag line was “Great beer brewed by a chick” was totally proven by the number of awards they collected.

Offbeat’s Way Out Wheat was a multi award winning beer, including being runner up Champion Speciality Beer of Britain in 2014 – a journey which began with judging at Chorlton in 2013.

We were therefore delighted when brewer Michelle agreed to reimagine it for this years festival and grateful to Red Willow Brewery , a brewery which began life at the same time as Offbeat, agreed to host. Michelle headed to Macclesfield earlier this week to reimagine the celebrated 4.5% hefeweizen with RedWIllow’s brewers Toby and Dan.

Offbeat x RedWillow Way Out Wheat, More Or Less, a delicious hazy wheat beer with banana, clove and a hint of bubble-gum, packed full of orange peel and coriander seeds, will be launching on cask and keg at this year’s festival which opens on 4th July.
