Checkout Guitar George….

Chorlton Beer & Cider Festival isn’t just about the beer – there’s also a great live music. We are very excited about our Friday night headliners who are headed up by a local musician  of the highest international renown.

George BorowskiTaking to the Chorlton Beer Festival stage on Friday 8th July will be George Borowski and the Fabulous Wonderfuls.

Widely speculated (but never confirmed) to be “Guitar George” who Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler thought “knows all the chords” when penning the 1979 hit Sultans Of Swing, George Borowski has been touring the world for decades and has shared stages with Meatloaf, Pixies, Radiohead, REM, Van Morrison, the Happy Mondays, Teenage Fanclub, Neil Young and more.

Although born in Penley, near Wrexham in North Wales and currently resident in Macclesfield, George considers Manchester his home town and despite having toured across the world, he returns home and gigs regularly across the city he loves.

He is an artist who has earned the highest level of respect from those on the ‘inside’ whilst also being able to reach and appeal to those on the ‘outside’ with his rarefied combination of presence, performance and beautifully crafted words of art.

“I have never seen a rock ‘n roll performer so completely connected with what he was doing on stage” Frank Black – Pixies

“A unique singer-songwriter with a righteous howl – George is one of the reasons I became a musician” Jimi Goodwin – Doves

Music with a message for all, delivered with a passion – George’s songwriting winds it’s way through pop, rock, country, blue suede tunes in true rock ‘n roll style.

Saturday Soul at CBCF16

Groove EmporersSaturday night’s live music at Chorlton Beer & Cider Festival will be provided by The Groove Emperors.

The Groove Emperors are a recently formed band, consisting of a tight knit bunch of friends, all time served players who have been working together for nearly 10 years. They were about to embark on a new venture as an instrumental group, when drummer Scott Broadhurst started to  think about finding a singer.

As if by magic, singer-songwriter Sarah Grundy appeared, just waiting be lured away from the comfort of an acoustic folk duo with the promise of plenty of soulful grooves to ride. Scott promised Sarah a great group of musicians to work with, and together Rob McWhirter (guitar), James Winterburn (bass) and Marcus Schofield (keys) proved him right.

With an eclectic set of funk, soul and jazz influenced covers, from Gil Scott Heron and Joni Mitchell to Alabama Shakes, the band’s well seasoned talents are perfectly matched with Sarah’s mellifluous voice.
