Festival Charity – Mad Dogs Street Project

The main proceeds of the festival go to support St Clement’s work in the local community. This year we’re supporting a Chorlton-based project helping the homeless: Mad Dogs Street Project.

The Street Project is a community-led initiative, staffed by volunteers, providing food & clothes to the homeless of Manchester.

The idea was borne from one of the founders suffering from Bipolar, and had he not had the privilege of private medical insurance he recognized he could quite easily have been one of the rough sleepers on the streets.

Food and Drink Donations

They always need food, both fresh and canned. They especially need non-perishable items and bulk carb items like rice, pasta, tomatoes, beans and any ingredients which can be made into stews. They also need a steady supply of small bottles of water.

They are very grateful for regular donations of foil food containers, such as the ones used for take-away dishes. Similarly, we need plastic spoons to give out with each meal.

Clothing and Survival Supplies

All clothing is welcome, but they have a particular need for socks, underwear, waterproofs and tracky bottoms. Seasonal items such as hats, coats, gloves in the winter and t-shirts & lighter warm clothes in the summer. You don’t have to buy new though; second-hand clothing and supplies are extremely welcome, but they do stress that they must be clean and wearable.

Food, drink and clothing are received at our drop-off point; Elliott’s Fruit and Veg shop in Chorlton precinct.
